breaking atoms, breaking beats
Join us as we sit and reminisce with Kevin McKenzie, professionally known as K-Cut - a Canadian record producer and DJ known most notably as a member of East Coast Hip Hop group Main Source.
In 1991, Main Source released their debut album, Breaking Atoms, which is regarded as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Although Large Professor produced the majority of the album, K-Cut was praised for his "creative, energetic scratching", particularly on the track "Peace Is Not the Word to Play", which he produced. That year, K-Cut's production also appeared on Queen Latifah's album Nature of a Sista', and he produced the bulk of The Black Tie Affair, an album by Toronto rapper Maestro Fresh Wes, which was certified gold in Canada.
In addition to talking about his most noteworthy work as an artist during this session, we will also generate an informal workshop that will bring together beatmakers, producers, and music creators (at all levels of knowledge) to share beats, tracks, techniques, questions and ideas in a supportive and inclusive environment.
